The UN unveiled the Energy Action Plan, which aims to achieve clean and affordable energy for all by 2030, the official representative of the head of the UN, Stephane Dujarric announced on Wednesday.
The plan includes steps for collective action by 30 UN entities and international organizations to fulfill the ambitious commitments they made at the High-Level Energy Dialogue last September, the UN spokesman said.
These commitments include ensuring that another 500 million people have access to electricity and another 1 billion people to clean and affordable energy for cooking, creating 30 million jobs in renewable energy and energy efficiency by 2025, Dujarric said.
Clean and affordable energy by 2030 is critical to addressing the climate change emergency and achieving zero emissions by 2050.
The UN also announced the creation of coalitions in support of Nigeria, Santiago and Chile in access to energy resources and energy transformation.
