A newly revealed plan for the growth of renewable energy projects that Jiangsu province in East China, the center of the nation’s manufacturing, would increase its consumption of renewable energy to more than 15% of the province’s overall energy consumption by 2025.
The plan predicts that by 2025, the installed renewable energy capacity in the province will be greater than 66 million kilowatts, or more than 34% of the entire installed power generating capacity in the province.
By 2025, the installed photovoltaic power capacity will exceed 35 million kilowatts of the province’s total renewable energy capacity, while the installed wind power capacity will surpass 28 million kilowatts. In order to address the need for renewable energy, Jiangsu intends to construct offshore wind power facilities along its eastern coastline.
By 2025, it is predicted that the renewable energy power generation in Jiangsu province would contribute to a reduction in coal burning of over 33 million tons yearly, which equates to a reduction in annual carbon dioxide emissions of nearly 87 million tons.
According to China’s announcement, it will work to reach carbon neutrality by 2060 and reach a peak in carbon dioxide emissions by 2030.
