Catalonia Sets Clean Energy Target of 62GW by 2050

As part of its ambitions to attain climate neutrality in the energy industry by 2050, the Spanish province of Catalonia aims to create as much as 62GW of clean energy by 2050, reNews.biz reported.

Catalonia will need 12 gigawatts of electricity by 2030, with 7 gigawatts of solar and 5 gigawatts of wind power, according to the region’s administration in order to reach its clean energy target.

It went on to say that the statistics must allow it to deal with the scheduled retirement of nuclear power facilities while also allowing wind energy to account for 50% of the country’s electrical output and photovoltaics to account for 43% in 2050.

The proposals are part of the Catalan Energy Institute’s (ICAEN) Energy Prospective of Catalonia 2050, which was created for the government by the Catalan Energy Institute.

Teresa Jorda I Roura, Catalonia’s Minister of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda, and ICAEN head Marta Morera I Marce presented the Energy Perspective of Catalonia 2050 on February 4th.
