The European economy should move towards decarbonization – the maximum reduction of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere.
Such an appeal to the participants of the Davos forum was made by the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda, who participated in it, his press service reported.
“Europe must decarbonize the economy. We must abandon fossils and switch to renewable energy resources, which will benefit business, people and the environment,” the Lithuanian President said in the message.
Nauseda presented to the forum Lithuania’s plan to increase electricity generation using renewable resources by seven times by 2030, and become a climate-friendly country by 2050 by limiting decarbonization.
“Today, Lithuania imports 70% of the electricity it needs, but with the development of energy using wind and solar, we will become producers of exclusively “green” electricity by the end of this decade,” Nauseda said.
