By 2030, Germany’s wind energy capacity should already double to 110 GW, and the share of solar energy should triple to 200 GW.
Renewable energy sources (RES) will produce 100% of electricity in Germany by 2035. According to Reuters, this task is set in the updated draft climate plan of the German authorities. In the previous version of the document, the goal was 2040.
By 2030, wind and solar energy share should be 80%. German Economy Minister Robert Habeck called the accelerated expansion of renewable energy capacity a key element in reducing the country’s dependence on fossil fuel supplies.
According to the project, by 2030 the onshore wind power capacity in Germany should double to 110 gigawatts (GW), and offshore wind power should reach 30 GW. Solar power will more than triple to 200 GW.
In 2020, the share of renewable energy sources in the energy system of the European Union reached 37%.
