In response to climate change and global warming, communities across British Columbia will receive record investments in important projects to reduce emissions, promote health, and expand opportunities, the BC government reported via press release.
The Canadian and British Columbia governments have pledged up to $134 million for the third intake of the CleanBC Communities Fund, raising the initial investment to over $240 million for community projects that significantly raise clean energy and energy efficiency in residential and commercial buildings, public transit, and other community-owned infrastructure.
“Investments in clean, efficient energy help support climate action and a healthy environment while making life more affordable for families. They also contribute to the building of stronger, more resilient communities,” said Jonathan Wilkinson, federal Minister of Natural Resources, on behalf of Dominic LeBlanc, federal Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure, and Communities.
The CleanBC Communities Fund third round of financing will support initiatives in the CleanBC Roadmap to 2030 and supplement prior funding rounds. Local governments, Indigenous communities, and non-profit and for-profit groups can apply for financing in Round 3 beginning January 26. It also works to assist programs specified in the federal government’s Healthy Environment, Healthy Economy climate action plan, ensuring that net-zero carbon targets are met.
The CleanBC Roadmap to 2030 is B.C.’s strategy to extend and accelerate climate action by using the province’s natural assets: plentiful and clean power, cutting-edge technology, and a highly trained workforce. It paves the way for more collaboration to create a British Columbia that benefits everyone.
