Taiwan needs $3.5 billion to improve its power infrastructure, Tsen Wen-sheng, chairman of state-owned Taiwan Power, said Focus Taiwan reported.
Taiwan’s authorities need these funds to increase the stability of the island’s electricity transmission networks and reduce the excessive load on some sections of the network.
For example, power plants could independently power significant energy consumers, such as science or industrial parks, instead of transmitting energy through the same networks as households.
The Taiwan Ministry of Economics intends to test the new mechanism on the South Taiwan Science Park example.
Together with the Ministry of Science and Technology, the distribution of electricity consumption by the park will be determined so that the supply system can operate more efficiently.
The ministry will also explore integrating more and more renewable energy sources into existing networks.
Recently, due to a power outage in Taiwan, 5 million households were left without electricity. The accident occurred at Sinta station – the largest in the island’s south.
When the station returned to work, surges caused the shutdown of other network stations in the center and north of the island.
