According to a study from Spain’s grid operator Red Electrica de Espana (REE), 37% of the country’s power in August came from renewable sources, Renewables Now reported. Spain’s total power generation in July included 37.6% renewable energy sources.
According to REE’s August statistics, combined-cycle gas plants produced one-third of the country of Spain’s electricity. The hydroelectric facilities produced 1,036 GWh, the least amount since 1992, due to the absence of rainfall, according to the grid operator.
Compared to August of the previous year, wind and solar farm production increased.
Estimated electricity demand for August was 22,077 GWh, an increase in gross terms of 0.1% over the same month last year. When labor market trends and weather are considered, the country’s demand decreased by 2.3%.
On mainland Spain, the expected total demand for power generation was 20,534 GWh, a 0.6% decline from last year. The mainland demand decreased by 3.2% annually after being temperature- and seasonally-adjusted.
Gross demand increased by 15.5% in the Balearic Islands to reach 730,434 MWh, and by 6.4% in the Canary Islands to reach 772,644 MWh.
