The UK Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy has allocated about $42.6 million as part of a pilot program to build floating offshore wind turbines, CNBC reported.
The Ministry will allocate approximately $42.6 million in grants to eleven projects under the Floating Offshore Wind Power (FOW) Pilot Program.
In particular, within the framework of the INFLOAT project, authorities plan to develop and demonstrate a number of innovative British technologies.
By 2023, a 15-18 MW, class floating platform based on the TetraSub design from Stiesdal Offshore Technologies will be deployed at the site in northern Scotland.
The project’s primary goal is to accelerate the deployment of large-scale floating wind farms by reducing the cost of energy while expanding supply chain capacity in the UK.
Marine Power Systems (MPS) is another company set to showcase its low-cost floating foundation system for megawatt-class wind turbines.
